7 Little Known Lottery Scrambles

Bet you didn't know these unusual scrambled-up facts about the lottery. See my suggestions on them too:

1. In last month's USA Powerball, a group of four won the $200,000 prize with the SAME numbers they had been playing since it was first launched in South Carolina. It's quite common among winnners to keep the same numbers. Read the next line...

2. ALL my systems, including the ones for USA and Australian Powerball - work on the principle of using the SAME numbers each time. Makes life so much easier when you only do the figures once - or get them done for you at http://www.silverlotto.com/custom.htm.

3. Remember I talked about the hidden pitfalls in a last Tuesday's Lotto-Tips? Here's where you can get some information on jackpot annuities: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lottery_jackpot_records. For example, New Jersey has no state tax on lottery prizes, while most European jackpots are tax-free.

4. Largest ever jackpot was Spain's 2003 Christmas lottery, the Sorteo Extraordinario de Navidad, when it reached US$2.2 Billlion. The first prize was $470 Milllion, second of $235 Milllion.

5. On March 2007, a Mega Millions jackpot of $390 Milllion was won and split by two ticket holders from Georgia and New Jersey. This is the largest recorded payout ever made worldwide. In general, lottery prizes are trending up in value - which is way better than house prices right now!

6. In the large multi-milllion dollar prize lotteries in the USA, most winners take the lump sum payout where it's offered. Prizes are also paid by annuity (drip feed) over 20 years. So a one-time lump sum cash payment, less the federal taxes, will end up about one third of the total prize money offered. But given the unpredictability of life, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush... so I suggest you take the immediate payout too.

7. Lottery tickets are usually scanned in large numbers using marksense-technology. With today's computer performance, it takes less than one second to check if a particular combination was picked up - even for Mega Millions or Euromillions. I always recommend you have your tickets checked by your lotto retailer for accuracy.

Happy Winning!
