Do Others Tell You What to Do?

.
Most of us are controlled by others or their opinions, rightly or wrongly:

- they tell us what car to buy ("That car is too expensive /gas guzzling for you.")
- they tell us what to eat ("Those hamburgers will make you fat.")
- they tell us how much tax to pay (" Your tax is due on the seventh, or else".)
- they tell us how much we can borrow ("Your credit is poor, we can only lend you this amount.")
- they tell us how we can dress ("You can't wear a T-shirt in this office, you need a tie.")

And - in the case of my own country yesterday - they tell us when the sun should rise and set! Yes, Daylight Saving Time rolled round again, and we are now working to the government's time. The season's natural order has shifted according to their whim.

(I'll tell you shortly how I got round it).

Naturally, there are things you need to do when others tell you. It helps make our planet a better place to live:

- We all need to keep to the same side of the road.
- We all need to respect our neighbor's privacy.
- We shouldn't rob banks.

But when you win lotto, everything changes.

On the one hand it is your money to do what you want.

But on the other, there are more subtle pressures put on you. Your family may not mention it, but they may be annoyed that they didn't get a larger share of your winnings.

So you need to be strong... decide what you can give away or share, and stick to it. Many winners have found that by stacking the money away in something concrete, they avoid the guilt that comes with not being able to spend it all on others.

1. For example, some people buy a new house or make a deposit on one. This means that money is effectively tied up and is not available.

2. Others deposit their winnings in the bank for six months until they decide what to do with it. By that time usually all the arguments are over, and everyone has a fair idea of what to expect from you.

Take a look at your own life... how much of that can you change to be fully in control when you win lotto?

Think about it.

So, how do I stop the government telling me when to wake up and go to bed?

Easy. I simply leave my watch at the same time all year round, and run my life according to my own, personal "standard time." Of course, not everyone can do this fully... you usually need to be self-employed and in control of every area of your life to get the best advantage.

Take back charge of your own life where you can. It starts with one small step, and a bit of money from some lotto wins to build your independence.
