Charting Our Alexa Lotto Blog Progress

Every day I check out my lotto websites readership statistics in a number of places. This tells me where I've been, and hopefully where I'm going.

But the chart above from my Google Analytics interested me today. It details the number of people who are returning to this lotto blog. While the figure may not mean much to you, I've watched the percentage of returning readers climb dramatically - from about 5% at the beginning to nearly 50% now.

This is good, since it shows me that I'm writing material that is interesting enough for you to come back. So thanks. It helps me in my target to reach position 20,000 on the Alexa toolbar.

At the moment we are at 655,408. That means we have still a way to go, but if you read this previous post about Alexa, you'll see we've already gained over 100,000 places since then, and are making steady progress. Slow but sure... ain't that the way!

Alexa Provides A Sub-Million Surprise

Remember back on the 4 March I said this blog was in 1 millionth position out of 100 million others? Guess what - I just took another reading just now using the toolbar on my Firefox browser, and we're up to 764,620. Hey, progress!

I'm aiming for a position of at least 20,000. Help me speed my goal along by letting many people know about this blog or specific posts. You can:

• - Mention it in a forum.
• - Email a friend using the little envelope below.
• - Write it up on your own blog.
• - Add it in your newsletter.

Do this right now. I'll keep you regularly informed on progress.

PS. Getting to 20,000 will be a challenge. You see, Alexa toolbars are generally downloaded by geeks who are after tech stuff. Makes a big bias against non-tech blogs. Since my lotto blog is not technical in any way, I'm going to have to be very enticing indeed to increase readership!

How Many Lotto Articles Are Here?

I should be celebrating - this post is the 250th article I've written since starting this blog in 2005. But maybe I shouldn't be too self-congratulatory... my Alexa rating is a mere 1,039,061 and Google PageRank a 4/10.

Still, there are about 100 million blogs in existence (Really? Who says that?). So being in the top 1% is still good.

One of the things I concentrate on is providing solid information. Many blogs are opinion or posts in journal form ("here's what my pet did today..."), and reveal very little about a product. I hope mine is different.

This Week's Predictions, And A Little Viewership Surprise

Here's a surprise.

You'll see we've hit the 100k position (give or take a few hundred depending on the day). 

That means we are in the top 100k websites in the world based on viewership, from among several billion others.

It's an OK accomplishment, but my aim is to get to the top 10,000 by the end of the year.
