The Odds For Winning The Lottery Twice Are Better Than Anyone Thinks

If it happened once, that would not be very interesting. But if it happened twice, then you would start to sit up and take notice.

I'm talking about winning the jackpot - or other large prizes - twice. Or the same numbers coming up again.

Despite it being a 1-in-a-trillion probability, this happened for some lucky lottery players in Israel. The same 6 double-digit balls were drawn in the national biweekly lottery draw on Saturday. 

This happened twice in less than a month.

The Miphal HaPayis state game picked 36, 33, 32, 26, 14, 13 and the "strong number" 2 as the winning combination. 

And amazingly the same first six numbers had been picked in exact reverse order and won the lottery on September 21. The only difference was the "strong number," which determines the first prize jackpot. 

Anyone who played those six numbers on both dates won big -- twice.

Well, that's certainly unusual, but nothing compared to how some winners beat the odds. I'm talking about lotto winners and the way that some of them win large prizes twice. You could too.

For example, I read recently:

- A woman who won $1 million playing a Pennsylvania Lottery won ANOTHER million on the same game in the same year.

- Pennsylvania lottery officials said other winners have experienced lucky streaks. A Carbon County man won four times, collecting over $2.5 million in the late 1980s and '90s; and a husband and wife separately won replica Pocono pace cars in the Pocono Race for the Riches game in 2000.

- In Australia a 70-year-old Taree grandfather who had already won $1 million in lotto was one of three winners sharing in the game's First Division prize of $500,000.

- And in Ireland, for the second time in eight years, a group of 33 colleagues from the Clonmel Nationalist newspaper traveled to Dublin to collect their Lotto winnings. In October 1993, the syndicate won £400,000, but in 2001 they more than doubled their winnings to £1m. Each member won £30,303.

- In my country (New Zealand), a Rotorua couple celebrated the end of an extraordinary year, having won two major lottery prizes in 2005.

The more I looked, the more common it was... these are just the tip of the iceberg.

The lucky double wins just go on and on. You can see similar results by Googling "lotto win twice."

The Amazing Day I Won A Trophy And Blitzed The Competition - And How It Helps You To Win The Lottery

I have an unusual framed photo hanging on my garage wall. It's one that brings a smile to my face every time I look at it.

Because it's a picture of me in a group of people, standing in front of a Porsche GT3.

And it was taken when I joined 50 others in a special skills driving day put on by our local Porsche dealer. I think they were trying to sell me a car too.

What's so hot about that photo?

Well, if you look closely... you'll see I'm the shortest in this small group. I'm actually average height - a little taller than Tom Cruise - but these guys were pretty up there. I'm also the oldest of the group by a couple of decades or more. (Yup - not much going for me there either!)

But here's three reasons why this picture brings a warm glow to my heart every time I look at it...

Because firstly, everyone in that group - except me - is a Porsche owner. Some even have two or more of these exotic sports cars and have owned them for years. If nothing else, this means they're no beginners - they are serious drivers with years of skills. So I'm cosying up with the elite here.

And secondly, several of them race competitively on the race track. I'm talking 200km/hr and up. Fast, skilled. What great company I'm in!

And the third reason?

Just a couple of hours after this photo was taken, I was awarded the equivalent of a driving Oscar, having beaten them all!

I had never raced on a track before, but I won the slalom course outright in a Cayman against all these experienced drivers.

And every day I look at the photo and the trophy, I'm reminded that it isn't how old you are... it isn't how tall you are, or fat or thin - or even how good-looking. You can beat the best in your field if you have the right attitude.

And one other thing...

I was discussing my fantastic luck with an experienced race driver a few weeks later, and he said something quite illuminating:

"You won partly because of your skills, sure," he explained, "but the main reason is that you were able to follow instructions."

I blinked. I hadn't followed instructions for years... I like to set my own pace. But when I thought about it, he was right.

In the two test runs we did to familiarize ourselves with the track and the car, I listened very intently to the instructor. I did everything he said, as best I could. And the result was a success that my family still keep hearing about!

So if you're feeling a little disadvantaged right now... maybe life isn't dealing you a top hand... remember this.

It isn't what you are, but what you can DO. You can achieve anything you put your mind to... from winning Lotto to being the best you can be in anything.

My Battle With A Microwave: And How It Will Help You Win Lotto

After we moved into our new house a few years ago, I bought a new Smeg microwave to match the existing built-in oven.

But when I put the microwave into the open cupboard above the oven, it had unsightly gaps around it.

So I checked with the store, and found I could buy a special stainless steel factory kit made exactly for this problem.

Shocknote: - It cost around half the price of the microwave. That's right - the price tag was a whopping 50% of this expensive Italian microwave. Just for some pressed stainless steel... no microwave unit, no fancy door to keep out the rays, no heating element to use as a mini-oven, no buttons and control unit... nothing. Just flat polished steel shaped to cover up some gaps.

After I recovered from the sticker shock and found there was no alternative, I bought it.

How was I going to fit it? The kitchenware shop said no problem, fitting it was an easy task for a DIY'er (Do It Yourself).

"You can instal this in a few minutes flat," they said confidently. A small chill came over me when I heard those words. In my experience nothing is ever as simple as that. But I took the unit under my arm and set off home.

Armed with all the essential tools I thought I would need... screwdrivers, saw, electric drill, measuring tape... I set out on this easy do-it-yourself project after dinner, around 7pm. 

A word about my building skills... I'm pretty good at making and fixing stuff. Not expert, but good. When our boys were small I built them a land yacht that we used used on the local airfield at weekends. They still talk about it 30 years later.

And I built a pram dinghy that gave them hours of fun in the river at the bottom of our garden. It never sank, so I guess I can use that as the best example of 'built to last!'

I'll spare you the story about how I spent the next six hours in our kitchen. It was a monumental task that never seemed to end. I had a LOT of problems with the fitting. 

At nearly 1.15am... yep, in the early hours of the morning - I packed my tools together and surveyed my work through bleary eyes. Pretty as a picture. There it is finished in the photo above I took the day after.

It was perfect. And I was exhausted. So I made a pact with myself...

From that time on, I was always going to let Experts do the work. I would not waste my valuable time any longer. Not only do these people have the skills needed to do the job perfectly, they do the same thing day after day. So they are going to be better at it than anyone else, no question.
